ARTIST STATEMENT
My work is an intimate exploration of people and their stories, weaving together photography and collage as intertwined languages to explore the depths of the human condition. Through these layered mediums, I seek to unravel the emotional weight of memory, the delicate complexities of identity, and the quiet, persistence of longing.
Rooted deeply in my Greek heritage and shaped by an immigrant upbringing during the 1970s, my art carries a gentle melancholy and pervasive sense of absence that is always present beneath the surface. The experience of separation from loved ones, from the homeland, breathes through my work, unfolding themes of solitude, nostalgia, and displacement. My images are quiet and intimate, and at times quite intricate, inviting the viewer into a close, attentive gaze where subtle details stir an emotional resonance that lingers long after the viewing. The act of reconstructing personal photos (new and found) in my collages becomes a way to honor the past while creating new narratives.
Ultimately, my work speaks to a universal human desire and the need to connect and belong. It offers viewers a quiet space to reflect on their own stories of migration, loss, change.
